The Graduate Management Admission Test, or GMAT, is an important part of the business school application process. The GMAT is a multiple-choice, computer-based, and computer-adaptive standardized exam which is often needed for admission to graduate business programs (MBA) globally. The GMAT provides business schools with common measures of applicants’ preparedness for graduate-level academic work. The exam is made up of 3 sections which takes approximately 3 ½ hours to complete. Below is the breakdown of each section and respective durations:

3 ½ hours = 3 sections + Analytical Writing Assessment (30 minutes)

Integrated Reasoning Section: 12 questions in 30 minutes

Quantitative Reasoning Section: 31 questions in 62 minutes

Verbal Reasoning Section: 36 questions in 65 minutes + two optional 8-minute breaks

A candidate can score between 200-800 and your score fluctuates based on your responses; correct A = harder Q / incorrect A = easier Q.

When taking the exam, a candidate has three options for section order:

  • Analytical Writing Assessment, Integrated Reasoning, Quantitative, Verbal

  • Verbal, Quantitative, Integrated Reasoning, Analytical Writing Assessment

  • Quantitative, Verbal, Integrated Reasoning, Analytical Writing Assessment
