MBA Concentrations

Earning an MBA is a great idea, but the question to be asked is how important is having a concentration? Is choosing to specialize better than opting for generality? Does an MBA concentration really make a difference for your career?


The importance of offering different concentrations for an MBA program cannot be over-emphasized because you can tailor your MBA to your specific interests and career goals, boost your knowledge and skill set in a given subject and help you stand out in a crowd of other gifted MBAs. At the college of business, we value the benefits associated with different concentrations.


The College of Business offers the Traditional Masters of Business Administration in General Business as well as specialized concentrations in:

· Accounting

· Management Information Systems

· Finance

· Supply Chain


Each concentration listed above is made up of a few elective courses devoted to the topic of your choice. At TSU, MBA students have 3 elective courses they can choose in order to pursue the concentration of their choice, while the remaining 9 courses are core courses for General Business.


Accounting Concentration

A good accountant always makes you happy because you to look out for your financial management and take some of the worrying away. Accounting is not just about numbers, it is about money, and money is more than just a number to many people.  

The accounting department in the College of Business is positioned to supply the global market with well-trained, competent, and trust-worthy future leaders through our accounting course curriculum offerings. As an accounting student, it is also important that you develop the additional skills necessary to position yourself for the most lucrative and competitive opportunities available.

Our curriculum is designed to produce graduates who are:

Management Information Systems Concentration

If you are interested in becoming a mover in the trend of technology, consider getting your MBA with a concentration in management information systems. Finance Concentration

Deciding to study economics and finance is one of the best career decisions that one can ever make. An MBA in economics and finance generally helps prepare students for advanced leadership and management positions within the field of finance. People in many of these positions work to help individuals or organizations better manage their finances and work towards financial goals. Or department here at TSU aspires to offer the very best training in economics and finance. Highly successful careers can be found in the government including:

· The Federal Reserve Board,

· Investment banking,

· Financial consultancy houses/brokerage firms,

· International development organizations such as the World Bank or IMF

· Real estate

· Most state and federal government departments

As a finance department, it is our responsibility to teach the students the essential principles regarding how consumers and producers react to various market conditions. Also, to understand how macro and microeconomic environments adjust differently to factors and specific market trends and indicators.


When asked by our students, economics and finance professors were overwhelmingly favoured by our business school students for their ability to make complex formulas relevant and engaging. Words used to describe our faculty are engaging, challenging, encouraging, and supportive. One hundred percent of our full-time faculty members hold doctorate degrees, with an average classroom professor-to-learner ratio of 20-to-1. Our faculty are internationally recognized for their research and can be found providing economic and financial editorials for publications across the country, or being interviewed for commentary on economic conditions in local television channels and newspaper columns. The department publishes a ranked and refereed international journal, the Journal of Developing Areas (JDA).

Supply Chain Management Concentration

Supply chain management addresses the ways businesses coordinate to find parts and raw materials, make products (or provide services), warehouse them, and transport them to customers or retailers. Here at TSU our supply chain management concentration is designed to prepare students for a career in supply chain, by forming the management and technology skills required for positions in the supply chain environment. The program also provides students with an understanding of the strategic and operational nature of supply chain management. Graduates with a concentration in supply chain management may be involved in:

· Procurement contract negotiations and management (national and international)

· Supplier quality evaluation

· B2B purchasing

· Warehousing

· ERP

· Inventory management

· Transportation

· Packaging

· International logistics

As a supply chain manager, and understanding of the entire supply chain operation from inception to the final customer is needed. Our supply chain concentration is equipped with instructors that are vast in this area with several years of experience.
